3D is coming at you! Get it?
So we’re getting AR on all sorts of phones now, so what do we need next to build toward the paradise that is the Sixth World? How about trideo? Check it out!
Now, here’s the question. Let’s say you get a video wall of these bad boys. Then another one. Then find a way to coordinate the images showing on those screens. Could you design an immersive virtual environment that requires the participants to wear only 3D glasses instead of a cumbersome helmet? And then with Wii-like motion-sensing technology, you could make it east for people to interact with that environment. Cooooool.
At very least, we’ll be getting some wicked video games.

You are talking about a Cave: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cave_Automatic_Virtual_Environment
This has been done for some years, using projectors instead of multiple TV sets… (still needs to get cheap enough for installation in my living room ;)

The Economist’s laters Technology Quarterly had a nice article on the current state of Augmented Reality – http://www.economist.com/sciencetechnology/tq/displaystory.cfm?story_id=14299602
Unrelated, there was also a neat article on military drones. Nothing really new, but a good all-around state of affairs – http://www.economist.com/sciencetechnology/tq/displaystory.cfm?story_id=14299496
Cheers!

Natal for X-Box combined with 3-D Displays and you are in the game.

My big gripe about all these 3-D technologies is that they depend on wearing glasses of some sort or another. Nobody seems to make anything for the individual consumer who already WEARS glasses and can’t see worth bat-drek without them.
I would have gotten an HMD long ago if they made anything in a consumer price range that was compatible with eyeglasses.

Barring a catastrophe of epic proportions, I believe that most of the technology of Shadowrun will be well on its way by 2020 – 2030. New experiments with brains will probably lead to full VR experiences. I don’t think datajacks would sell well though. Trodes will be much more common.
