Shadowrun at Origins!

What can Shadowrun fans find at Origins this week?

Well, as usual, we’re hosting a ton of games. Origins has a well-deserved reputation as “the con you go to to play” and we always have a large group of tables running! Our convention volunteers work tirelessly during the show to introduce and reintroduce people to Shadowrun!

But if you’re not so interested in playing Shadowrun at the convention, and you instead might want to get your hands on a little something called the Shadowrun Fourth Edition 20th Anniversary Edition, we will have 10 copies available per day. That’s all! First come, first served. My copy isn’t even here yet, although my ears are perked for the doorbell and my friendly UPS guy!

We’ll also have our new Shadowrun Matrix Dice available in sets of 15!

  1. Brian S. Says:

So does this mean the people who ordered the Limited Edition Rule Book will be getting their book soon?

  2. Stephen Marinaccio Says:

Where can I get a set of those dice? Sexy!!

  3. AdamJury Says:

We don’t have a street date for the book yet, Brian. These are advance copies, air-shipped over. The rest of the books take the boat!

  4. AdamJury Says:

The Matrix Dice will be available for sale on our online store sometime after Origins — we’re picking up our shipment at Origins and then dragging it back to the Seattle office/warehouse.

Your FLGS should be able to order them at some point too, but I don’t have exact details on that yet so please don’t go asking them yet. :-)

  5. superninja42 Says:

Hoi! I want those dice! Drek they are nice chummer!

  6. Casazil Says:

Will the dice also come in the 36 die boxes?

  7. paws2sky Says:

    Oh, pretty dice.

Maybe I’ll pop in and try to snag a copy of SR4A. What time does the dealer’s room open this year?

  8. AdamJury Says:

I’m pretty sure they come in 15 count boxes only. Easier to stock/store/ship if we only deal with one size.

  9. AdamJury Says:

10AM every day, Thursday through Sunday.

  10. Socinus Says:

Will those dice come in other colors or styles?

  11. Lime2K Says:

Every day it becomes harder and harder to resist the call to print my PDF from the pre-order combo. BTW, are the LE copies on their way over in the boat as well, or is that a completely different animal?

Those dice are sweet, though — I’ve got a bunch of D6s with skulls as the 1 side (to give glitches that proper dramatic impact ^_^) that I currently use for SR. How big are those dice?

  12. MrTim Says:

Are the regular edition books on the same boat as the limited edition, or will they be out later?

  13. Archaos Says:

Why they are like others d6 except the 1 ? For me, a really shadowrun d6 have this faces : 0, -, -, -, 1, 1 to see immediately the success or complication.

  14. Matt Says:

Will there be anything new about the “Runner’s Toolkit”?

  15. AdamJury Says:

Not yet, but possibly — hence when they’re Shadowrun Matrix Dice, and not just Shadowrun Dice.

  16. AdamJury Says:

I have no further news about the shipping status of SR4A, beyond that we have a small number of them at Origins.

  17. JohnDunn Says:

@Archaos – The cost of custom dice manufacturing increases with every side you customize. I’m not sure which vendor was used on these, but as an example, Crystal Caste makes their custom pricing public: http://www.crystalcaste.com/custom.htm If we were to customize 4 sides. (1, 2, 5, & 6 are all required See “Rushing the Job” p. 65, SR4A.) We’d be looking at a manufacturing cost, per the linked pricing of more than $1.50 per die. That’d make the manufacturing cost for a pack of 15 dice more than $22.50. Given mark-ups of distribution and retail, I think that’d put the sale price around $50 before CGL gets a profit. I’d love a set like that too, but I don’t think even I’d pay $50 for them.

  18. Michael Burrage Says:

The perfect set of fancy Shadowrun dice could be made by Q-Workshop (q-workshop.com). Their dice are always custom on all faces.

Start with the existing “D6 Digital” design (in the “Special Dice” category):
    1) remove the large main numbers from the 2, 3, and 4 faces.
    2) use the standard Shadowrun symbol in place of the large main number on the 6 face.
    3) use an altered Shadowrun symbol (with an open tail, and squared head so it looks a bit like a “5″) in place of the large main number on the 5 face.

Based on Q-Workshops other licensed dice these would retail for around $3 each. So $36 for a set of 12.

(I would buy two such sets myself)

  19. Archaos Says:

$50 is effectively too much expensive.

  20. AdamJury Says:

    It’s $45, Archaos.

  21. gribble Says:

Can I ask what is “Matrix” about the dice? Is is the clear plastic?

  22. AdamJury Says:

Nothing complicated, gribble — that’s just the name we chose for them, so we can do different colors/textures/etc down the line and distributors/stores won’t get confused between the different types of Shadowrun dice.

  23. gribble Says:

Cool, thanks. Looks from the pic like they’re a sort of blue/smoky transparent plastic – is that about right?
    :)

I have some silver & black circuit board type dice that I picked up at GenCon a couple of years back. While I’m pretty attached to them, it might be time for an upgrade…

  24. BookWyrm Says:

Will the dice be available in other colors? I prefer a nice forest green with white pips.

I have a nice batch of multi-corored dice I use for SR which I’ve picked up at ICON over the years, which I usually reserve for SR-play.

I’ve also treated myself over the years to a nice set of Grimtooth dice (the “! replaces by the headshot of the Great Troll himself), a ‘death die’ & four of the Adventure Dice (trap, treasure, corridor and door). I should get one more Grimtooth die.

  25. AdamJury Says:

Yup, gribble. When David and the rest of the traveling gang are back from Origins, we’ll post some better pictures of the dice.

We may do some other colors down the road, but not immediately.

  26. WD Says:

Do those dice have the Shadowrun S on the 1 or the 6? I never managed to get a set of the waaaay old ones (man I guess it mustve been what 2nd ed when the red and black ones were done?) but I remember them. As I recall they had it on the 6, so that rolling the S would be a good thing. Hoping that continued but someone above mentioned the 1 so figured I would ask!

  27. AdamJury Says:

The six, WD. You can see 1-pip sides in the picture. :-)
