Fiction

Fiction has always played a seminal part in developing and fleshing-out the Shadowrun universe, from short fiction in sourcebooks, to full-length novels; nothing works as well to immerse a player into the Sixth World. Catalyst Game Labs is releasing brand new fiction, while also starting to make available all previously published novels in epub format.

Spells and Chrome
Welcome to the year 2072…

…And a world unlike anything you’ve ever imagined. A world where magic and machines exist side-by-side. Where cybernetics can replace organs or entire limbs with ease, and arcane spells can make the impossible happen. Where the Matrix has become an artificial world of its own, filled with all kinds of pleasure, treasure, and trouble. Where dwarves, elves, orks and trolls walk alongside humans every day. Some work for megacorporations whose invisible tentacles wrap around every aspect of modern life. Others choose a much less legal career, doing whatever dirty work the corp executives need done—for a price.

Welcome to Shadowrun

Featuring fifteen new stories about the men and women who make their living in the shadows of the Sixth World, Spells & Chrome takes you into the dark and dirty streets of the future. Whether risking their lives to execute a mission for an employer who might be planning to double-cross them anyway, or just doing whatever they need to do to survive another day, shadowrunners use everything they’ve got—cyberware, spells, or a very big gun—to get the job done.

FOUR CLASSICS. ONE VOLUME. PURE SHADOWRUN

Shadowrun fans know. They love the dark alleys and darker plots of the Sixth World, and they know that Nigel Findley wrote some of the best Shadowrun novels ever. Now, for the first time, his four iconic books are collected in a single volume.

Whether you’ve loved Shadowrun fiction for years or are just now being introduced to it, the novels of Nigel Findley are a superb place to start. This exclusive edition contains:

  • 2XS, which introduces private detective Dirk Montgomery and pits him against the mysterious sources of a chip even more addictive than the strongest BTLs;
  • Shadowplay, featuring a veteran decker and a young shaman who stumble on lost technology that puts them up against one of the world’s largest megacorporations—and the Corporate Court itself;
  • Lone Wolf, where an undercover Lone Star operative finds himself in the middle of an exploding gang war; and
  • House of the Sun, which brings back Dirk Montgomery and sends him to Hawai’i, where he runs afoul of the government, a ritual sacrifice, powerful elves, and very unpleasant bugs.

This omnibus provides a unique opportunity to dive into the complete novel output of one of Shadowrun’s finest writers. Let Nigel Findley show you what it really feels like to run in the shadows!

    Hi, I find it absolutely amazing that someone takes care of the classic Shadowrun books from Robert Charrette. For me his Shadowrun books are the best out there.

    Keep the good work up!

    You guys should hire Winterhawk & Shapcano to write for you. They had some Frakkin awesome fan fiction, and are frankly the reason I still check this site occasionally.

        I’m interested. I’ve had something I’ve been working on for QUITE some time, though I’d need to talk to someone re: an undeveloped part of CalFree that the first part of my story is set in, before I take it anywhere past where it is now.

    What happened to Dark Resonance? I recently finished “Spells and Chrome”, which had an advert for Dark Resonance, but I can’t find any real info.

    The author’s page lists it as on “indefinite hold”. :-(

          +1.

          I sadly do not have time to play the RPG any more, but I try to get my hands on any SR fiction that I can.

          I thought Spells and Chrome was overall pretty good (and had actual swear words for, I think, the first time in SR fiction history!) and was looking forward to Dark Resonance.

            I think the swear words detracted from the story. Shadowrun has plenty of slang this is widely used and could have easily replaced it AND kept to the flavor of the setting more appropriately.

    As cool as it is too see Findley’s book back in eprint, as annoying it is to find his texts littered with dashes in the wrong places. It’s really not much fun reading like this.

    I’m wondering if and when we’re gonna see all – or as much as possible – of the SR fiction compiled. The “sidebars” in Street Legends has me wondering what the frag happened between 2072 and 2073 – like, I sorta knew Nadja was still alive.

    Ya know. That kinda stuff.

    It’s incredibly hip and new and boorish of me but may I suggest also checking Shadowrun (game/toy classification) on Facebook? They have been quite active lately and regularly make publishing announcements.
    More awesome fiction is always welcome!

    Hey folks, I bought the Nigel Findley Omnibus last year (which, barring some typos, was awesome) and recommended it to a friend, but it’s not available for purchase in the USA anymore? Just curious as to the inside story on why that is?

    Keep up the good work! I have a feeling the “Shadowrun Returns” Kickstarter project is going to reenergize the community and hopefully bring some more chummers into the P&P game! :)

      Thet aren’t available anywhere at the moment.

      Hopefully they will be sorted out soon.

    I’m so glad Shadowrun is reemerging. It’s a very dear world to me, one I’d be most happy to see become real this December. Crossed fingers, chanting, “Come on dragon awakening!” I don’t see that happening, even though I’d love to become a physad, so I’m glad I can at least visit through other people’s imaginations. Still, Shapcano and Winterhawk’s stuff is as good as any of the pro novels and their free so I have hard time buying new ones. Though I had nearly all the old ones at one point. Now I’m not even sure why I bothered to write all this, just ignore me.

    Just finished rereading Technobabel and went online looking for new fiction, boy did I get a wake up call. Had no idea they were out of print.
    I currently own about 15 paperbacks from original print but am missing several stories. Are they hard to find?

      Last I heard there were legal problems with the two novels. Basically Catalyst not having the rights to sell the books. This could be a tricky situation that will take a while to settle, especially if it is found Catalyst does not have the rights to the books.
