Thanks for your questions! To start the Artifacts Campaign, you might want to work with a group that is designed with 450-500 BP; alternately, you can adjust the stats of characters in the adventure downward. If you're talking about Karma awarded after initial character creation, probably something along the line of 75 Karma (and the cash that comes with earning that much Karma) would work.

You're right that we don't have a set rule of cash received per point of Karma. With the way things tend to work, 2,500 nuyen per point of Karma is not a bad guideline.

I absolutely love Shadowrun and have purchased every book and E-book that has been released. Lately, I have been organizing a group of players to take a stab at playing the Artifacts campaign.

After reading the game books, it occurred to me that a 400 BP character team would be over matched by many of the encounters in the campaign. As a result, I have been toying with the idea of allowing a group of veteran players to build veteran characters. How much karma and cash (above and beyond 400 BP), if any would you recommend a character have to start the Artifacts campaign? In addition, is there a basic guide line that GMs can use to choose an appropriate professional/threat level for grunts when running published campaigns or building ones own campaign. Example, it is unlikely a team of novice characters will walk away from a lethal confrontation with either a red samurai or Tir Ghost team. At what level of character karma and cash should one start to introduce these types of grunts to a campaign with a realistic expectation that characters will be able to walk away from these encounters the same way a 400 BP character would walk away from an encounter with a Prof 2 or 3 encounter.

Also it has been difficult for me to gauge how much cash runners should receive per point of karma. I know there is no set rule to this, but I was hoping for a guild line.

Thank you for Shadowurn. It has provided my friends and I with a never ending joy. Keep up the good work.
